Primary school students` learning loss during summer holiday

At this research, whether a loss of information that the fourth class students at primary school have Turkish and Mathematics lessons at the end of the school- year is or not at the end of a three-month summer holiday and if there is or if there isn't, the factors that have caused this are worked to be determined. With this aim, Turkish and Mathematics success tests that each one consists of 25 questions are prepaired by the researcher. Also, p ersonal information belongs to the students, possibilities that they have, and how they have spent their summer holiday is prepaired. The phase of the research constitutes primary school students at the center districts in Ankara. As for the sample of the research constitutes 704 the fourth class students from four private and eleven public total 15 primary school at 2003-2004 school-year. Success tests have been carried out to the fourth class students as pre-test at the end of the 2003-2004 school-year, the same success tests have been carried out to the same students (now fifth class) as last-test at the begining of the 2004-2005 school-year. At the analysis of data, SPSS computer programme has been used. As being determined of success scores between pre-test and last-test, a difference score belongs to each student (it can show increase or decrease of student's success) has been found, and later comparisions have been made over this difference score. Meaningful differences have been researched by being made t-test at independent variables of two low categories such as sexuality (girl-boy), by being made one-way variance analysis at independent variables of three and more low categories such as education condition. Tukey many-sided comparision test has been done to determine meaningful differences between which groups at the result of ANOVA. 0,05 meaningfulness level has been taken into consideration at the analysis of data. Some of the results of the research that have attracted attention have been given at the below. Summer learning loss of the students has come true more at mathematics lesson than Turkish lesson (approximately 3 times). Summer learning losses occurred both Turkish and mathematics lesson of low-social-economic level students are more than middle SEL and low SEL students. Summer learning loss levels occurred both Turkish and mathematics lesson of the students whose father's and mother's education situation are grammar school and primary school are more than learning loss levels of the students whose father's and mother's education situation is high school and higher education. Summer learning loss level occurred both Turkish and mathematics lesson of the students who have computer at home has come true less than learning loss level of the students who don't have. Summer learning loss level occurred both Turkish and mathematics lesson of the students who have bookcase or source books is less than learning loss level of the students who don't have bookcase or source books at home. Summer learning loss level occurred both Turkish and mathematics lesson of the students who have a room which belongs to own, or he (she) shares with his (her) sister (brother), has come true less than learning loss level of the students who don't have a room. Summer learning loss level occurred both Turkish and mathematics lesson of the students that a daily newspaper is taken to their house has come true less than learning loss level of the students that a daily newspaper isn't taken to their house.
