Primary and high schools teachers' perceptions of organizational citizenship (Malatya province sample)

Human is the most important resource and capital of an organization. If the person shows organizational citizenship behaviour, this will be very usefulforthe development and performance of organization. Organizational Citizenship Behaviour (OCB) has many dimensions. But mostly Organ?s five dimensions are accepted (1988). These are: Altruism, Courtesy, Sportsmanship, Conscientiousness, Civic Virtue.The purpose of this research is to determine the perceptions of organizational citizenship of primary and secondary school teachers working in the field of rural area and the city center of the province of Malatya under certain variables.In the education year 2009 ? 2010, 9136 teachers working in the province of Malatya borders primary and secondary schools form the study population. 927 teachers form the sample of the study. As a means of data collection, OCB scale is developed by using as a base of first OCB scale, developed by Podsakoff and McKanzie with regard to Organ?s 5 dimensions and by making use of other studies in literature. Five Likert-type scale is used in the questionaire. The questionaire is consisted of five dimensions and 41 items. The survey is formed in two parts; personal information is located in the first part and teachers' perceptions of organizational citizenship is located in the second part. SPSS (Statistical Package For Social Science, 12) package program is used for statistical analysis of data obtained from the study. Analysis of the data, percentage, arithmetic mean, Standard deviation, Mann-Whitney U, Kruskall Wallis U tests are used. The upper limit 0.05 was accepted as a magrin of error.Based on the findings of the research, statistically significant difference have been revealed among staffed, contracted, paid teachers, between teachers working in public and private schools, between city center and town center with village/rural area schools teachers and between primary and secondary schools teachers.
