The evaluation of the effect of teaching the subjecti Blacksea region, with visual tools and eguipments in the 7th class social science lesson in primary school, on student`s academic success (Tokat example)

ABSTRACTIn this study, it is investigated that the impacts of the method or instructionsupported with the usage of visual means with traditional method of instructionon the understanding of the students who are in the second class of the high schoolabout the subject of ?Blacksea Region? and their success in regional SocialScience studies.The fieldwork at this study was made in the first term at 2005-2006academic year. The sample of this study was constituted by the students who are attwo different classes in which the same Social Science teacher studies on thissubject in Yeşilırmak Primary School in Tokat. And the class is composed of 50students.In the fieldwork, while the subject of the Black Sea Region is appilied tocontrol group by the way of traditional method of instruction, the same subject isapplied to experiment group by the way of method of visual tools and media. Inthis fieldwork, the pattern of pre-test and post-test has been applied to the controlgroup. Then the data of the research ,the success test of ?the Black Sea Region?hasbeen applied as pre-test and post-test and collected.In addition to these, while doing the analysis of data, the SPSS 10,0programme has been used and P=0,005 has been considered as the level ofmeaningfulness.In the analysis of data, t-tests of relevant samples and t-tests ofirrelevant samples have been used.The results evaluated by statics are these:In the subject of? the Black Sea Region ?,the student of experimental groupwho are taught by the usage of visual means are more successful than the studentswho are taught by the usage of traditional teaching methods.-According to the obtained findings, it can be said that the use of visualmeans in the lesson of Social Science is a more effective method than thetraditional teaching methods in terms of increasing the success.Key words: The Instruction of Geography, Social Science Teaching, TheMethods of İnstruction, Visual Means , The BlackSea Region.
