Evaluating the creative writing skills of the 5th grades of primary education

Abstract (EN)

In this research, it was studied if the creative writing activities have effects on developing the students` writing skills and their opinions about writing or not. In the research, which was done as an experimental study in the fall semester of 2006-2007 education year in Etimesgut district Hasan Şükran Saruhan Primary School in Ankara, 40 5th year students (20 experiment-20 control) participated. The students of these four classes were made done a free writing activity in order to choose the students for both control and experiment groups. These writings were evaluated with creative writing rubric, developed by the researcher. These evaluations were done by the researcher and three seperate field experts and the scores given by the field experts and the researcher for each student were taken as the pre-test scores. The equivalance of the pre-test creative writing skills of the four classes were analyzed with the unilateral variance analysis. Due to the fact that there was no significant difference between the pre-test results of the classes, the 40 students participating in the two classes, the rates of which were closest to each other, were taken as the control and the experiment groups. v vi In this research with experiment group, creative writing application was done two lesson hours in a week and fourteen weeks in total. As a result of this study, according to the consequences of the anova done unilateral between the creative writing successes of the experiment and control group students, it was seen that there was a significant difference in favor of the experiment group. It was determined that there was a positive progress in the thoughts of the students in experiment group about writing compared to the control group.
