Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of science education based on analogies, concept cartoons and predict-observe-explain techniques on learning outcomes. In this quasi experimental study, quantitative data is analyzed by using SPSS 11,00. Standard deviations and means were calculated, and correlations, multiple regression analysis, independent t-test analysis, anova for repeated measures were performed. Qualitative data were analyzed by using content analysis. The analyses revealed the following: There is a positive correlation between science achievements, attitudes towards science, higher order thinking skills, academic risk taking and science process skills. T- test results for regression coefficency is examined, it is found that the main predictors of science achievement is scientific process skills and attitudes towards science. When the achievement test scores were compared by pre-test, post test and retention test, significant difference was found between two groups in favor of the experimental group. Also, there is significant difference between two groups? test scores of attitudes towards science and scientific process skills in favor of experimental group. On the other hand, no difference in terms of students? academic risk taking scores. Results of interviews revealed that, misconceptions were remedied in experimental group. In addition, control group has more misconception than experimental group about concepts of Living Things Unit. Opinions of students revealed that students enjoyed the lessons and wanted to continue learning science in such way. Keywords: Misconceptions, Concept Cartoons, Predict-Observe-Explain Technique, Analogies.
