Primary school teachears' attitudes towards computer and computer anxiety

The purpose of tis study is to identify primary school teachers? ?computer anxiety?, ?attitude towards computer?, ?purpose of computer usage?, ?ideas about using computer for instruction? and identify whether these are changing according to demographic properties or not. This study also tries to identify if there is correlation between demographic properties and ?computer anxiety?, ?attitude towards computer?, ?purpose of computer usage? and ?ideas about using computer for instruction?.This research includes 307 teachers who are working in Kemelpaşa in İzmir. The ?computer anxiety scale? (Crombah Alpha=0.86), developed by Preece and translated to Turkish by Arıkan (2002), ?ideas about using computer for instruction scale? (Crombah Alpha=0.92), developed by Çağıltay and others (2001), ?attitudes towards computer scale? (Crombah Alpha=0.91), and ?purposes of computer usage scale? (Crombah Alpha=0.92) developed by researcher were used at this study.The statistical techniques arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t-test (for double variables), analysis of variance (for multi variables) were used while analyzing the date. To find out the source of difference among groups, Scheffe, in the event of the Scheffe didn?t show the source of the difference, LSD test was used.Teachers have computer anxiety but not at high level (X = 2.23). Teachers generally have positive attitudes towards the computer (X = 3.69).. Online research, preparing materials used in the class, and reading news are the most common purpose of computer usage. Online banking and online shopping are the less common purposes of computer usage. Teachers generally have positive opinions about using computer for instruction (X = 3.28)..
