The effect of rule instruction based on content types on the learning levels and recalling of learning of students in primary school

It can be said that there are a lot of factors that affect the quality of instruction activities that are carried out in educational institutions. Determining what the factors are and the relationships between them; and also taking into consideration these variables during the process of planning and applying the instruction activities are playing a major role in the effectiveness of process.One of the factors that affects the quality of instruction activities is related with determining the structure of content matched with students? aims which are defined and organizing the instruction through that type of content. One of the content types that occupy an important place in school learning and parallel to this situation, being taught is rules.The purpose of the study is putting forward the effectiveness of rule instruction based on content types on the students? learning levels and the recalling of their learning in the primary school.In this research, one group pre-test and post-test model, which is one of the half experimental research models, was used and the experimental study was carried out in Eskişehir Center Millizafer Primary School in the autumn-spring terms of 2006-2007 education year. The research was conducted on 241 sixth grade students who attended the school mentioned.The data of study were gathered with ?Computer Technologies Course Achievement Test? used as pre-test, post-test and recalling test and ?Personal Information Form? which were developed by the investigator.In the data analyses that were gathered in the research, standard deviation, one sample T test and independent T test were applied. In statistical analyses, the level of significance was accepted 0.05.The results obtained from the data analysis were as follows.Rule instruction that based on content types is effective on students? learning level.Rule instruction based on content types gives effective results in terms of recalling of rules that were taught. In this respect it can be said that applying rule instruction based on content types is a useful approach for recalling of learned items.Rule instruction based on content types is effective on the principles and procedures learning level of students. It was found that rule instruction based on content there is a significant difference between the success of students on learning principles and procedures. Students are more successful in learning principles than procedures.
