Orff approach and rough engine skills in primary school 1st grade children

The purpose of this research; The aim of this study is to examine the development level of primary school 1st grade students by measuring their gross motor skills with the TGMD-II test as a result of musical activities to be carried out for 8 weeks with the orff approach method. 78 students, 39 (20 girls - 19 boys) in the research group and 39 (21 girls - 18 boys) in the control group, from the 1st grade students of Subaşı Primary School in the Tavsanli District of Kütahya Province participated in the research. The TGMD-II test was applied to the students participating in the study. In the application part of the study, a pre-test was applied to all students participating in the study. The children in the experimental group were trained with the Orff approach, which is an educational approach in which "music and movement" effectively integrates for 40 minutes, 3 days a week. The Orff-Schulwerk approach is known as a contemporary musical movement education philosophy that emerged as a result of the work of composer Carl Orff. By emphasizing my Orff-Schulwerk "Music and Movement Education", it is aimed to reveal the creative spirit of the person within the group exercises by catching a rhythm with the music and exhibiting improvisationally, including the dynamic rhythms and language elements. On the other hand, in the lessons held with the Orff-Schulwerk approach, it is thought that the students can make every move by catching the rhythm of the music by feeling joyful, and it is argued that every child, adult, disabled or child with a normal development level can find a place in this lesson and express themselves artistically, without any discrimination among children. . The children in the control group were not taken to any exercise. The application was continued for 8 weeks with the experimental group. At the end of the application, the study was terminated by applying the post-test to all participants. The subtests to be measured in TGMD-II consist of two parts: object control and locomotor skills. locomotor skills; running, gallop, hop, jump, standing long jump, gliding movements, Object control skills; The movements of hitting with a stick, dribbling by standing, catching, hitting the ball with feet, shooting above the waist level, shooting below the waist level were measured. The measurements were made twice for all children, and their total success was determined by giving 1 point for the skill criteria they were successful and 0 points for the skill criteria they were unsuccessful. Normality tests were performed in the analysis of the data, and the Repeated Measurements Anova method for Mixed Measurements was used for hypothesis testing. According to the findings obtained as a result of the test; When the positive change in the "locomotor skill" and "object control skill" sub-dimensions of the study group and control group was compared at the end of the 8-week music and movement education program, it was determined as a result of the analysis that there was a highly significant change in favor of the study group. As a result of this study, the 8-week music and movement education program contributed positively to the development of gross motor skills in primary school 1st grade children.
