Evaluation of the adaptation and readiness of 1st grade primary school students to scholl

This research aims to evaluate the school compliance and school readiness levels of the students who start the first grade of primary school according to their gender, age, and whether they have received pre-school education. Primary school years are important for school success. Studies have shown that school compliance affects academic and social success. For this reason, there is a need for studies examining school compliance and school readiness. Survey model was used in the research. The sample group of the research consists of 362 primary school 1st-grade students studying in public primary schools in Bornova district of İzmir province and 38 class teachers who teach these students. In the study, the "Primary School Readiness Scale" " (Canbulat ve Kırıktaş, 2016) was used to determine the school readiness of primary school 1st grade students, "School Compliance Scale" (Özarslan, 2014) to determine their school compliance, and a personal information form was used to determine their demographic information. The analysis of the data in the study was carried out using descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation), Mann Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis H Test, Independent Sample T-Test, One-Way Analysis of Variance, and Pearson Correlation Coefficient and multiple regression analysis. As a result of the research, no significant difference was found according to gender in the school readiness and school compliance levels of primary school first-grade students. School compliance and school readiness of primary school 1st-grade students who receive pre-school education are higher than that of primary school 1st grade students who do not receive pre-school education. School compliance and readiness of students aged 69-71 months and over 72 months were found to be higher than students aged 60-68 months. In addition, the school compliance and school readiness of the students who are over 72 months old are at a higher level than the students 69-71 months old. In addition, a positive and moderately significant relationship was found between school compliance and school readiness. Keywords: School compliance, school readiness, primary school student.
