Özet (EN)

This study aims to examine the distribution of mathematical language in the reading texts found in 2nd grade Turkish language textbooks for the 2024–2025 academic year. The research employs document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods. The data sources of the study consist of a total of 16 reading texts—8 narrative and 8 informative—taken from the 2nd grade Turkish textbooks published by the Ministry of National Education (MoNE) and İlke Publishing. These texts were analyzed based on the mathematical language expressions defined in the 2018 Mathematics Curriculum for 2nd grade learning and sub-learning domains. The data collection tools of the study are the Turkish textbooks for 2nd grade published by MoNE and İlke Publishing. As a result of the study, it was determined that the texts contained mathematical expressions related to the learning areas of Numbers and Operations, Geometry, and Measurement. It was found that, in both MoNE and İlke Publishing textbooks, the mathematical language appeared most frequently in the Numbers and Operations learning area, in both narrative and informative texts. In the MoNE publications, mathematical language was more prevalent in informative texts than in narrative ones, whereas in İlke publications, mathematical expressions were observed more frequently in narrative texts than in informative texts. Finally, when both books are considered collectively, it was concluded that narrative texts contained more mathematical expressions than informative texts.
