Abstract (EN)

This research was conducted to determine the problems faced by primary school 4th grade students in learning English. The research was carried out with mixed method. The universe of the research consisted of 599 students studying in official primary schools affiliated to Eskişehir Province Directorate of National Education in the academic year of 2018-2019. In collecting the data of the research, interviews were made with the students first. After analyzing the interviews, a questionnaire form based on the emerging situations was prepared. Then the data were collected through a questionnaire. Content analysis was used in the analysis of the qualitative data collected in the study. Students' personal information and their views on the problems they encounter in their English learning were analyzed with percentage (%) and frequency (f) values. As a result of the research, the students stated that English is a global language and therefore learning is essential for communication, travel and future professional competence. However, it is seen that students have difficulties in the pronunciation of English words and remembering their Turkish meanings, their homework is inadequate and boring, there are no materials and activities required for the lesson, and the lesson hours are insufficient.
