Investigation of reading attitudes, reading anxiety and reading motivation of primary school 4th grade students (Afyonkarahisar sample)

The purpose of this research is to examine the reading attitudes, reading concerns and reading motivations of fourth grade students. The research design of this study, which was structured using the quantitative research method, was carried out in the relational scanning model. The study group of the research was selected using easily accessible sampling technique. The study group consists of a total of 458 students, 239 boys and 219 girls, studying in the fourth grade of public primary schools in Afyonkarahisar city center in the spring semester of the 2022-2023 academic year. In the study, the "Attitude Towards Reading Scale" adapted to Turkish by Kocaarslan (2016), the "Reading Anxiety Scale" developed by Çeliktürk and Yamaç (2015) and the "Reading Motivation Scale" adapted by Yıldız (2010) were used as data collection tools. T-Test, ANOVA, Scheffe and Games-Howell tests were used in the data analysis of the research. In our research, fourth grade students; It was determined that they had a positive reading attitude, and their reading attitudes did not show a significant difference according to the education level of their parents, but they showed a significant difference according to gender and book reading frequency. It was determined that reading anxiety was low, reading anxiety did not differ significantly according to the gender variable, but it differed significantly according to the variables of parents' education level and book reading frequency. It was determined that their reading motivation was high, there was a significant difference according to gender and book reading frequency, but there was no significant difference according to the education level of the parents.
