Evaluating of relationship between quality of life and voiding dysfunction in primary school children

Abstract (EN)
Objective: Purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between voiding dysfunctions and health-related quality of life of primary school students. Material And Methods: Research was executed at three primary school selected by simple random sampling. Data from subjects was collected through the use of "General Purpose Health-related Quality of Life Questionnaire for Children (kid-KINDLE)"(7-13 years), "Voiding Dysfunctions Symptom Score", and "Socio-demographic Information Form" for families. SPSS for Windows 15.0 was used in the analysis of data. Socio-demographic variables were defined and analysed as numbers and percentages, and pearson correlation analysis was applied for the relation between collected data. Findings: Average of kid-KINDLE health-related quality of life total score is (77.51±12.40). Kids evaluated quality of life relating to family maximize (82.87±16.60) and self-esteem scores relating to perceptions of themselves minimal (67.63±24.28). Voiding dysfunction detected % 12 percent of students. The most common symptoms are enuresis in day (%16) and night (%14,1). Significant negative correlation were determined between self-esteem quality of life score and voiding dysfunction( p<0,005). Significant difference were determined between voiding dysfunction scores and number of sibling.(p<0.05) Result: The families are not clear about to share the voiding dysfunction problems of their children with their teachers. According to students, voiding dysfunctions affect their health-related quality of life negatively. But the parents consider that voiding dysfunctions has no effect on health-related quality of life. The awareness of the families and the teachers about voiding dysfunctions should be improved. Those are offered to plan education programmes and to attemp the treatment studies about this matter.
