Determining the environmental knowledge, attitude and behavior of fourth grade primary school students

The aim of the study is to determine 4th grade primary school students' knowledge, behaviors and attitudes of towards the environment. In the study, survey design which is one of the quantitative research methods was used. In the research, "Environmental Knowledge Scale", "Environmental Behavior Scale" and "Environmental Attitude Scale" were developed for the purpose. The research was carried out with 292 4th grade students studying in the 2018-2019 academic year in the Şanlıurfa province Haliliye and Eyyübiye district centers. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the environmental knowledge, behavior and attitude scores did not differ according to gender. In the examination made according to the science course grade, it was determined that the scores of knowledge, behavior and attitude scale differed significantly. In the evaluation made according to the parental education level, there was no significant difference in environmental knowledge, behavior and attitude scores according to the mother's education level. On the other hand, it was found that the knowledge and behavior scale scores for the environment differ according to the level of father's education level. A significant difference was found in the environmental behavior and attitude scores of the students according to the frequency of their care at home. A positive relationship was determined among students' knowledge, behavior and attitudes towards the environment. As a result of the study, the findings have been discussed with the scientific researches in the literature and suggestions that can contribute to environmental education have been made.
