Opinions of the primary school fourth grade students on the determination of the misconception of the concept of sub-learning in the Turkish lessons

The aim of this study is to determine misconceptions of fourth grade students of primary school related to the sub-learning area of "Meaning in Word" in the Turkish Course curriculum. The study group of the research, which is carried out using a "case study" pattern, which is one of the qualitative research approaches, consists of 40 teachers, 24 female teachers and 16 male teachers working in three primary schools in the city center of Gaziantep in the 2019-2020 academic year. The research data were obtained by using the semi-structured interview form. In the analysis of the data obtained from the research, "theme analysis" and "descriptive analysis" pattern were used. The themes, sub-themes and frequencies of the data obtained in the research are shown in tables, the tables are analyzed and their comments are made. According to the results reached based on the findings of the research; our teachers have made definitions of misconceptions in various ways. They considered factors such as cultural structure and social environment, language, experiences, age, lack of attention, incomplete or incorrect information, not working enough and not reading enough books among the reasons for the occurrence of misconceptions. It has been concluded that misconceptions are mostly experienced in September-October and subjects with abstract features. In addition to using many tools to detect misconceptions, it was seen that verbal and written expressions of students were mostly used. It has been observed that the number of books read, the material and visual elements used in the occurrence of misconceptions has a positive effect in terms of reducing and preventing the pre-school education situation. Gender, on the other hand, had no effect on the occurrence of misconceptions.
