Perception of the concept of peace, safe and homeland of Turkmen refugee children at primary school level

Perception of the Peace, Safe and Homeland of Turkmen Refugee Children at Primary School Level The aim of this study is to reveal the peace, safety and homeland perception of Turkmen asylum seekers at primary school level. Phenomenology research design which is one of the qualitative research approaches was used in the study. The participants of the study consisted of 21 Turkmen asylum seekers that are children of primary school age, living in Mamak district of Ankara. The data collection process of the study was carried out in two stages. In the first stage, pictures were drawn by participants about the concepts of peace, trust and homeland. Then, the participants who drew pictures were interviewed about their pictures. In the second stage, a semi-structured interview was held with the children on the concepts of peace, trust and homeland. Descriptive analysis and content analysis were used in the analysis of the pictures. Content analysis was used in the analysis of semi-structured interviews. As a result of picture analysis, it has been seen that the participants reflected their: Perceptions of peace in terms of relationships and positive perceptions towards Turkey; perceptions of safety in terms of spatial and environmental safety; and perceptions of homeland in terms of their sense of belonging to Iraq, their positive view of Turkey as a homeland and their positive view of Iraq and Turkey as a homeland and their sense of Turkmen belonging. As a result of the semi-structured interviews it has been seen that the participants expressed their: perceptions of peace in terms of interpersonal relations and negative peace; their perceptions of safety in terms of being away from dangers, the dimension of relationships and spatial safety; their perceptions of homeland in terms of meeting their needs and their sense of belonging.
