A research on the conscious consumption levels of primary school students

Consumer education, which is the foundation of education, shapes the consumption habits of students. Therefore, knowing the adequacy of consumer education given in this period will be useful for planning and organizing the education of future consumers. This research has been conducted to determine conscious consumption levels of primary school students , who are consumers of the future, and to determine whether class level, gender, saving allowance and the amount of allowance affects conscious consumption or not. In this survey, the survey method , within quantitative research approaches , has been used. 477 students from 3. and 4. grades of 3 primary schools in Giresun province center have participated in the survey. A 4-point Likert scale , prepared as a data collection tool by the researcher and consisting of 20 items, has been used in this research. Frequency, percentage, average and standard deviation of data, obtained by conscious consumer survey, were calculated, skewness and kurtosis coefficients(parameters) were examined. Unrelated ( Independent) samples t-test and one-way ANOVA were used to determine the difference between the variables. As a result of the data analysis , when the average of the students participating in the research have always been found to be conscious consumers at ( =3,40) level. As a result of survey, the level of conscious consumption of the third grade students is higher than that of the fourth grade students, saving allowance has a positive effect on the conscious consumption but the amount of the saved allowance does not have any effect on the conscious consumption. Various suggestions have been made to program developers, teachers and researchers in consideration of the results of the research.
