Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to determine the value preferences of elementary school children and to investigate whether their value preferences differ according to various variables. This study was designed according to descriptive scanning model. The universe of the study consists of students studying in primary schools in Sakarya. The sample consists of 250 elementary school students determined by simple random sampling technique. The ages of the students participating in the study vary between 7-11 and 131 of them are female (52.4%) and 119 of them are male (47.6%). The Picture-Based Value Survey for Children (PBVS-C) developed by Döring based on Schwartz's Theory of Basic Human Values (TBHV) has been used. Multi-dimensional Scaling analyses (MDS) has been used to create the model. Independent t test analysis has been used to compare two variables and ANOVA test has been used to compare more than two variables. The data analysis showed that values did not conform to the Schwartz's theoretical structure and were settled in different locations. It has been found that male students give more importance to self-transcendence dimension than female students, and parent education has no effect on value choice. On the other hand, a significant negative correlation has been found between all dimensions. After the pictures used in the research have been revised according to Turkish culture, it is recommended to renew the study.
