Determining writting errors made by primary school students in different writing types: A case study

The aim of the research is to determine the writing mistakes made by primary school students in different text types in Turkish lessons. In the 2021-2022 academic year, research was conducted at all grade levels of a primary school in Harran district of Şanlıurfa. Written documents obtained from 90 students in the form of written text, 116 students in the form of dictation, 71 students in the form of free writing text, and 81 students in the form of writing that you understand were analyzed using data collected through the writing error evaluation form and the semi-structured interview form from 8 teachers. Research data was analyzed using a descriptive analysis technique. As a result of the research, it was observed that students had more difficulty writing free writing and writing texts that they understood with the use of different text types in Turkish lessons compared to other types at all grade levels. In the first grade, it was observed that letters with extensions were written by mixing and similar letters were mixed, that more line breaks and the beginnings lines of were not paid attention to in the second grade, that there were no appropriate spaces between words and sentences in the third grade and that in the fouth grade, spelling and punctuation errors were observed in general.The types of mistakes made in the text, at the grade level which they were made, and the teachers opinions on eliminating these mistakes were shared.It was suggested that students do regular writing exercises to identify, correct writing mistakes, increase family support to help overcome writing difficulties and use writing activities such as making writing activities popular, keeping a diary.
