Investigating the predictive power of primary school students' problem-solving skills on life skills

Abstract (EN)

This study aimed to determine the life skills and problem-solving skills of primary school students and the relationship between these skills. The correlational survey design was employed within the study's parameters because the goal was to assess the problem-solving and life skills of fourth-graders in primary schools and ascertain the correlation between these two variables—that is, to disclose the current state of affairs. In all, 118 primary school pupils in their fourth grade participated in the research. Fourth-grade primary school students' life skills were assessed using the "Life Skills Scale" created by Yayla-Eskici (2017), and the "Problem Solving Inventory for Children" created by Serin et all. (2010) was used to. The research data was analyzed using the SPSS program. The study employed descriptive statistics to ascertain the life skills and problem-solving abilities of fourth-grade primary school pupils. The study employed an independent group's t-test to investigate potential gender differences in the life skills and problem-solving abilities of primary school pupils. Additionally, a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to examine changes in the youngsters' scores based on the educational levels of their parents. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was utilized to ascertain how primary school kids' problem-solving abilities and life skills related to each other. In the end, basic linear regression analysis was employed to ascertain how well primary school pupils' problem-solving abilities predicted their life skills. The study's findings indicate that fourth-grade kids in primary schools scored higher than average on the life skills scale. Fourth graders in primary schools have problem-solving abilities that are above the scale's middle level. Life skills of fourth grade primary school students differed significantly in some sub-dimensions according to gender, mother and father education levels. The problem-solving skills of fourth grade primary school students also showed a significant difference according to gender and mother's education level, and it was determined that the problem-solving skills of students whose father's education level was university and above differed significantly. It was also determined that there was a moderate positive relationship between life skills and problem solving skills of primary school students and that problem-solving skills were predictors of life skills.
