Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to examine the effect of primary school 4th grade students' maths problem solving anxiety on their problem solving success. One of the quantitative research methods, relational survey model was used in the research. The study group of the research was selected by cluster sampling method. The study group consists of 337 primary school fourth grade students, 185 girls and 152 boys. The research was carried out with students in 15 classes of 4 public schools in Afyonkarahisar in the second semester of the 2021-2022 academic year. The "Primary School Problem Solving Anxiety Scale" developed by the researcher to determine the problem solving anxiety level of the students and the "Non-Routine Problem Solving Achievement Test" developed by Ulu (2016) to determine the problem solving success of the students were used as data collection tools in the research. In the data analysis of the research, multiple linear regression analysis was used to determine the effect of primary school students' problem solving anxiety on non-routine problem solving success, and logistic regression analysis was used to determine the effect of primary school students' problem solving strategies in separating problem solving anxiety levels. As a result of the research, significant predictors of primary school students' problem solving success; It has been determined that there are concerns about self-confidence, concerns about the solution process, and concerns about understanding. Primary school students use while solving problems; It was determined that while trial and error strategy, drawing figures and diagrams strategy and working backwards strategy decreased the anxiety level, the strategy of writing a mathematical sentence increased the anxiety level of the students.
