The effect of use of digital stories in primary school Turkish lesson on fluent reading, reading comprehension and writing skills of 4th grade students

The aim of this research is to determine the effect of digital story-based Turkish lessons on the fluent reading, reading comprehension and writing skills of primary school 4th grade students, to reveal how the Turkish lesson teaching process planned with digital stories takes place, and to describe how students make sense of this process. The participants of the research, which was carried out within the scope of the intervention design, which is one of the advanced mixed design approaches, consisted of 46 students in total who were studying in the villages of Silvan district of Diyarbakır province, attending the 4th grade in two different schools, 23 of which were in the application group and 23 in the control group. The research was carried out for 10 weeks in the 2022-2023 academic year. The Independent Sample t-test was used to determine whether there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups. In the analysis of the qualitative data, thematic analysis approaches were employed. According to the results, a significant difference was found in favor of the experimental group in the fluent reading, reading comprehension, and writing skills post-test scores of the experimental group and control group students. When the observation and interview process of the implementation is examined, it was determined that the process was adopted by the students and that the development process was compatible with the quantitative data.
