Investigation of artists books within the scope of the art of illustration and book designs and implementation of the project

Illustration, one of the methods of message transmission of visual communication design, is considered one of the examples of universal language, with its structure transformed by the dynamics of the age, continuing to exist in the historical process. Illustration, as picturing and narration based on the need to communicate from the primitive human to the present day, meets the need to transfer, share, store and make permanent information by taking on a variety of characters in different fields and subjects. These qualities were also the beginning of the emergence of the concept of writing and books, along with the message forwarding feature of illustration. Writing has established dialogue between different types of books and people and cultures by entering individual and communal life according to sociological and scientific conditions, needs, as one of the turning points of cultural development. With writing, the development, diversification of the book led to the formation of different kinds of books. Books that are shaped by social dynamics contribute to the development of civilization, especially through their structures that enable the transmission, preservation and sustainability of thought and knowledge. The textual structure of the article was supported by visuals, meaning that by illustration its narrative was empowering the transmission of information and messages. One of these types of books is artist books, based on the fact that each physical and contextual element is created with separate considerations, and the work that is laid out is considered and examined as a whole. Artist books require two different disciplines to coexist, both as a designer item and as a work of art. While there is an artistic concern in the context of content, design concerns are at the forefront in the sense of formation and structure. In artist books, where a tween of both disciplines is observed, the perception and narrative that the contents will generate through visual, pictorial narrative are both artistic aesthetics and in the sense of visual communication, it is also fictionalized on transmitting the correct message. In this respect, it embodies challenging formation and design processes in itself. The formation that emerges in authenticity, artistic expression, design fiction integrity is both a product of design and has artistic form. In this thesis work, one of the methods of message transmission of visual communication design is the association of illustration with the concept of picture books and especially exemplary research from the World and Turkey on artist books. Research has been studied in the historical process to convey development and transformation. An experimental project and application of this field was prepared by addressing artist books that are a unique area of creation, supported by design processes as well as concepts of deconstruction/deconstruction, textuality. Through illustration, book and artist book study, the thesis and proposed project aims to contribute to researchers on these topics in the field of visual communication.
