Attitudes of 11th grade students of Imam Hatip High School towards philosophy course

This research has aimed to determine the attitudes of the 11th grade students of Imam Hatip High School towards the philosophy course. In this study, scanning model, one of the descriptive research methods, has been used as a research method. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 642 students studying at 11th grade in 11 imam hatip high schools in Düzce, in the 2021-2022 academic year, who were contacted with easily accessible sampling method. Personal information form and Philosophy Lesson Attitude Scale (PLAS) developed by Tecim (2015) has been used as data collection tools in the study. As a result of the findings obtained in the research, the 11th grade students of Imam Hatip High School have a moderate level of attitude towards philosophy. In the sub-dimension of indifference and love, it is seen that the level of attitude towards philosophy course is low. In the sub-dimension of usefulness and trust, it is seen that the attitude towards philosophy course is at a moderate level. In the sub-dimension of the role of the teacher, it is seen that the attitude towards the philosophy course is at a high level. While there is a significant difference in the sub-factor scores of indifference, trust and the role of the teacher, and the attitude score of the philosophy course, according to the gender variable of the female and male students; No significant difference is found in the helpfulness and love sub-factor scores according to gender. There is no significant difference in the sub-factor scores of the education level of the parents, indifference, helpfulness, love, trust and the role of the teacher, and in the attitude score of the philosophy course. Attitude towards philosophy lesson according to mother's profession; while there is no significant difference in the sub-factor scores of indifference, usefulness, love and the role of the teacher and the philosophy course attitude score, there is a significant difference in the trust sub-factor score. In the attitude towards the philosophy course according to the father's profession; there is no significant difference in the sub-factor scores of indifference, usefulness, love, trust, the role of the teacher, and the attitude score of the philosophy course. It has been found that the students who have the highest average in philosophy course attitude scores are those whose families live in the province, whose economic situation is good, and who read books every day.
