The reasons why students who graduated from imam hatip secondary school do not prefer imam hatip high schools

The purpose of this study is to observe the reasons why students who graduated from Imam Hatip Secondary School do not prefer Imam Hatip High School in line with students' opinions. In this study, qualitative research method was preferred in order to obtain in-depth information. The study group of the research consists of 32 students gratuated from different four Imam Hatip High School in Yeşilyurt and Battalgazi, the central districts of Malatya. In the study pricess, Interview technique method was used as a data collection method. A semi-structured interview form developed by the surveyor was used to collect data in the study. Data were collected through face-to-face interviewed with students. The collected data were subjected to descriptive analysis. In the light of the data analyzed by the descriptive analysis method, some of the results obtained in the study are as follows: The main factors that affect the high school preferences of the participants are the LGS score and the secondary school success score due to the system applied in the transition to high school education. Apart from these two factors, factors such as getting a better general education, area of interest, newly opened school, being close to home, learning a profession and finding a job after graduation are other factors that affect high school preferences. The most effective reasons why Imam Hatip High Schools are not preferred is the high number of lessons, with the thought that vocational lessons will be difficult. In addition to these, the lack of coeducation, the fact that Imam Hatip High Schools other than the AIHL, which accept students with LGS score, are not considered academically successful, the thought that vocational courses may prevent them from studying for other courses, and the thought that Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School graduates with different interests are more advantageous in terms of employment.
