Özet (EN)

Aal Jabro, N. (2023) In Vitro Simulation of Implant Surface Decontamination with Different Instrumentation Tools in a Surgical Approach. Yeditepe University, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Periodontology, MSC thesis, İstanbul. The objective of this research is to conduct a laboratory assessment of three periodontal treatment tools and evaluate their efficiency on dental implant surface decontamination. To achieve this goal, thirty ink-stained implants were inserted into standardized epoxy resin models simulating horizontal bone defects at an angle of 180°. Implants were categorized into three distinct study groups accordingly. The standardized peri-implantitis models utilized in this study do not include any visible gingival tissue, as they are simulating an open flap debridement approach for treating implant surfaces surgically. Vector Paro Pro® device (VPP) with the use of the ultra-sonic linear oscillating handpiece (LOH) along with use of three special tips designated for implant surface debridement consisting of a stainless-steel tip (SST), a carbon-fiber tip (CFT) and a polyether ether ketone (PEEK) tip; the implants were divided on these tips (with each group at n=10). An examiner who was both blinded and calibrated assessed the standardized images of treated implant surfaces using image-processing software. The results showed that there was a statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of the areas cleaned (p:0.001; p <0.05). As a result of the mean cleared area, SST group was found to be significantly higher than the CFT and PT groups (p<0.05). In return, the final percentage of cleared area of the SST group was determined to be significantly higher compared to the CFT and PT groups (p <0.05) suggesting that within the parameters of this in-vitro study the SST group had achieved the best results in comparison to the other two groups, although even in this superior group total cleanliness was not achieved. In conclusion, the SST group showed significant results being the most efficient decontamination method compared to the other two groups after analysis; although it is crucial to acknowledge that full decontamination was not fully achieved by that group.
