Analysis of The Free Vibration of The Thin Plates By ANSYS Packet Programme (M.Sc. Thesis) Cengiz TOLUN GAZI UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY February 2000 ABSTRACT In this study, Free Vibration characteristics (natural frequencies and mode shapes) of linear, isotropic, homogeneous, elastic rectangular thin plates are analyzed by ANSYS packet programme. The general equation of motion of the rectangular plate is derived by applying Kirchhoff s Plate Theory. The field equations for the plate are expressed in finite element formulation. The analysis is carried out for 16 different cases which involve some of the possible combinations of clambed, simply supported and free boundry conditions. The results of the natural frequency parameters are obtained for the first five modes and for five different aspect ratios, namely a/b=2/5,2/3, 1/1, 3/2,5/2. The natural frequency parameters and mode shapes are presented.
