Abstract (EN)

Bonding brackets at a correct position is very important for the success of fixed orthodontic treatment. Using indirect bonding method for bonding brackets can lead to a more accurate position for bonding. Indirect bonding technique is more preferred by clinicians because it helps to reduce the chair time and more accurate positioning of brackets. The aim of this study is to compare the accuracy of the bracket position achieved with current and practical transfer trays which are used in indirect bonding technics. In this study, three different types of transfer trays; transparent silicone (polyvinylsiloxane/ Memosil II), duo phased vacuum formed (Ercodent) and custom designed by computer (E-IDB) has been compared in terms of bracket accuracy by means of three-dimensional scanners. Brackets were bonded on models and has been transferred to another model of the same patient. Linear and angular inconsistencies have been measured by superpositioning of scans before and after transfer. Group 2 (E-IDB) showed significantly lower positional and angular deviations than Groups 1 (double vacuum form) and 3 (memosil) for XY (angulation), YZ (torque) planes. Group 3 has significantly higher values for angular deviation in XZ plane (rotation) for each tooth group (p<0.05). Angular deviations were found to be higher than positional deviations in all study groups. Molar tubes were found to have more positional deviations than brackets. At the end of this study, it will be determined which transfer trays' accuracy is better. It has been discussed whether current approaches are effective enough despite their extra costs. The results of this study will be useful in choosing transfer trays for clinicians who are using indirect bonding.
