Prof. Dr. Turgut İKİZDue to the great success of wireless communications used in outdoor mobileradio systems, the wireless communication inside vehicles and buildings becomesmore and more important. There have been a number of recent investigations onindoor radio propagation modeling. In the last years different prediction models forindoor environments were developed for the frequency range between 500 MHz andupper frequencies (at GHz).In this thesis, the most popular two models used for indoor propagation aretested and compared to one another and to measurements in various indoorenvironments. Indoor propagation is, of course, more complex than outdoorpropagation becaused received signal strength depends on open plan offices, construction materials, building structure, density of people, furniture, etc. Variousobjects may scatter, diffract, reflect, and absorb radiation and cause decrease in thereceived level of signal level. Therefore, accurate characterization of the buildingmaterials is necessary for prediction of wave propagation behavior within indoorenvironments. For this purpose, in the present work, a free-space method for theinvestigation of dielectric properties is used and cement-based materials (concrete)are measured at microwave frequencies for determining transmission and reflectioncoefficients. Keywords :Indoor Radio Propagation, Path Loss, GTD, Free-Space Method,Dielectric Permittivity.I
