Abstract (EN)

In Great Britain the years of Margaret Thatcher between 1979 and 1990 is an important historic period that should be understood because of crucial changes took place in every part of life under the neoliberal policies. Also, these years represent a process that irrevocably transforms British society. The application of liberal policies simultaneously by the UK and the USA and been encouraged in international level resulted in expansion of liberalism in pro-USA countries under the Cold War which ended in 1991 division atmosphere and it created global consequences. As a result of such policies, the Thatcher made important impact on the British Cinema as much as in the society. In this context, while regulations regarding cinema led to structural, stylistic and financial changes in the field, policies aiming radical changes in the society brought to light thematic differences in the British cinema. Therefore, with strong documental tradition, the British cinema has broadly scrutinised the impact of liberal policies on ordinary people for a long time. This study mainly will look at the British Cinema and its relation with the policies of Thatcher era. By doing that, first the impacts on policies that were applied throughout Thatcher years will be discussed. Following this, the financial and structural changes and its effects occurred as a result of liberal policies will be examined. The third part of the study will analyse how the British cinema has dealt with the economic and social changes that took place in the society.
