Abstract (EN)
This study focuses on Brain Based Learning Theory which is one of new learning theories. The goal of this study is to determine whether there is a statistically significant difference between the academic success and emotional intelligence levels of students who study with Brain Based Learning Theory and traditional teaching methods. To reach this goal, an experimental patterned study has been planned. Research has been conducted in Antakya Bohşin Secondary School. 7/A students have been selected as experimental group and 7/D group students as control group. Accordingly, the model of research is pre-test and post-test model with control group. "Academic Achievement Test" developed by applying item analysis and the 41 items form adapted to Turkish "Reviewed Schutte Emotional Intelligence" has been used as data collection tool. Study sample of this research is 7th grade students who are going to Bohşin Secondary School in Hatay/Antakya during second period, 2017-2018 Academic year. The groups have been randomly selected as experimental group with 23 students and control group with 22 students. A total of 45 students has been practiced. To compare brain-based learning and traditional learning methods, the "Environment" unit has been selected in accordance with the 7th grade English program. The experiment group has been taught by methods based on Brain Based Learning Theory; the control group has been taught with traditional teaching methods as 4 weeks and 16 lesson hours. The datas has been analyzed in the SPSS program. Arithmetic mean, standard deviation, standard error values ve corrected mean of total scores obtained from pre and post tests has been calculated. Covariance (ANCOVA) analysis has been applied to test whether these observed differences are significant. According to the result of the research; the teaching of English lessons with methods based on the Brain Based Learning Approach is a significant difference on the academic success in favor of the experimental group; but it doesn't have a significant difference on the level of emotional intelligence.
