Özet (EN)
Self efficacy (SE) is believed to play a key role in the formation of human behavior. It refersto a belief in one?s ability to successfully perform a particular behavior or task. The actions ofpeople are more based on what they believe than what is actually true. Teacher efficacy, onthe other hand, is defined as the belief of teachers in their ability to affect studentachievement. This research aimed to determine whether there was a meaningful relationship betweenteaching SE and SE in using English as a foreign language. In this context, in terms ofteaching SE, student engagement/ teaching strategies and classroom management were takeninto consideration. As for using English as a foreign language, SE beliefs in the four basicskills: reading, listening, speaking and writing were taken into consideration. Thus, theteaching SE and English SE of English language teacher candidates were compared based onthe university they were studying at. In addition, the teaching SE and English SE of Englishlanguage teacher candidates were researched to determine whether the university they studiedat and the type of high school they graduated from had an effect on their efficacy beliefs. Thesample group comprised of 1182 English teacher candidates from 20 state universities amongdifferent regions and cities in Turkey. Data was gathered through two questionnaires, one ofwhich is ?Teacher SE Questionnaire?, developed by Tschannen-Moran and Hoy, and theother is ?The Capability for Using English as a Foreign Language Questionnaire?.The findings indicated that there is no meaningful relationship between teaching SE and SE inusing English as a foreign language. Furthermore, the outcomes of the research showed thatthere is meaningful difference among some universities in terms of the two variables.Similarly, the research showed there is no significant difference among the teacher candidatesin terms of the type of high school they graduated from in terms of teaching SE beliefs and SEbeliefs in using English as a foreign language.Key Words: Self-efficacy beliefs, pre-service teachers, teacher training, English as a ForeignLanguage
