Abstract (EN)

This study investigates both EFL teachers' and students' perceptions regarding the integration of ChatGPT into L2 writing classes in the context of higher education in Türkiye. It explores how teachers perceive and approach such integration in their classes, as well as how students react and respond to this. Moreover, the study explores the changes in student writing outcomes as a result of the implementation. Adopting a mixed methods embedded case study design, the study involved nine teacher and nine student participants for the qualitative phase while written products of 63 students were analyzed quantitatively. Through semi-structured individual and focus group interviews, reflections, field notes about the class observations, and written student products both qualitative and quantitative data collected to answer the postulated research questions. Findings revealed that there is a discrepancy between the views of teachers and students about employing ChatGPT regardless of the changes. The quantitative data indicates that students with lower writing proficiency benefit more compared to those with higher writing proficiency.
