The British policy in Caucasia: 1917-1921

Caucasia has been concurrence of interaction of economical, social and cultural between asia and europe. Because of geographical features it had never been possible for great and stable states in the region. However, the region became rivalry field between Iran and Ottoman states untill 19th century. Russia had been one of the important actors of this competition in the middle of 19th century. The Caucasia that had been one of the crashing fields of Historical Turk-Russian competition affected the change of the British Policy İn the region.After Bolshevik Revolution, the Caucasia was involved in chaos as well as in other part of russia. The British government aimed to prevent the danger of Socialist ideology in the region. On the other hand, the allied German-Turkish troops moved towards Transcaucaisa to have some benefits in the region. The aim of Germany in the region was to take control of Transcaspian by retaining Baku energy sources. İn addition, the Panturanism-Panislamism movement of Turks in caucasia and central asia was perceived as a great menace by British Government. İn order to prevent these unexpected situations, the British government had to take measures to maintain the control in the region.
