Abstract (EN)

Children aged 1-3 years who receive inhalation therapy may have problems in compliance with treatment and their parents may be worried. This study is a semi experimental study carried out to examine the effect of therapeutic play on the child's adherence to treatment and the parent's anxiety state in 1-3 years old children who are treated with inhalation therapy. The sample of the study consisted of children aged 1-3 years who received inhalation therapy and their parents (control n: 15, intervention n: 15). In the research, Descriptive Information Form, Vital Signs Form, Restlessness Self-Assessment Form, State Anxiety Inventory, Mask Compliance Evaluation Form for 1-3 Years-Old Children were used. The therapeutic game method determined by the researchers was used for the intervention group, and the routine nursing care in the hospital was applied to the control group. The data were evaluated by "Independent Sample-t" test (t-table value)," Paired Sample" test (t-table value)," Mann-Whitney U" test (Z-table value), "Wilcoxon" test (t-table value). It was found that there was no difference in terms of the ages and diagnosis of the children in the intervention and control groups, and in terms of the sociodemographic characteristics of the parents (p>0.05). It was found that the rate of tachycardia and tachypnea in children in the control group was higher than in the intervention group. According to the parental assessment it was determined that the mean score of the Mask Compliance Evaluation Form for 1-3 Years-Old Children in the intervention group was significantly higher than the control group (p<0.05). It was found that the mean scores of the children and mothers in the intervention group on the Anxiety Self-Assessment Form after therapeutic play were significantly lower (p<0.05). The mean scores of the State Anxiety Inventory Scale of the mothers in the intervention group after the therapeutic game were found to be significantly lower (p<0.05). Therapeutic play is recommended to be used in routine nursing care because it is effective on children's compliance with treatment and on parents' anxiety levels.
