Abstract (EN)
Purpose: The metric measurements of human body and their proportions to one another have attracted the attention of many artists and scientists for ages. In this regard, many studies have been conducted on this subject. This study aims to make anthropometric measurements of male and female students studying at different departments of İnönü University School of Physical Education and Sports, which trains individuals for sports-related occupations and has a responsibility to make our society healthier, to examine the relationships between the results of these measurements and students' sportive and mental levels, and to investigate the relationships between different body types and isokinetic test results, dynamic balance test results, some performance test results, and grip strength values. Method: 44 anthropometric measurements were carried out on voluntary research participants. In the beginning, the students were requested to fill in the pre-prepared sportsman evaluation survey and fill in and sign the form indicating that they participated in the study voluntarily. Based on the above-mentioned measurements, the somatotypes of the students were determined through "Heath-Carter Somatotype Calculation Formula". Performance tests such as vertical jump test, flexibility test, and 30 m sprint were administered to all students. Hand preferences were determined through "Oldfield Handedness Questionnaire". The grip strengths of those students who had different hand preferences were evaluated. In addition, knee isokinetic test and dynamic balance test were administered to every student. The students' university entrance scores and anthropometric measurement results were compared. Moreover, isokinetic test results, dynamic balance test results, and grip strength test results were compared by body type. Conclusion: A significant, but weak negative relationship was found between mental levels and some anthropometric measurements. 13 different somatotypes were found among male students, and 12 among female students. No significant relationship was found between somatotypes and isokinetic test, dynamic balance test, performance test, and grip strength test results. The study created the anthropometric map of the students of İnönü University School of Physical Education and Sports. Discussion: It is clear that anthropometry may make important contributions to determining the morphological and physiological states of people, identifying employees who are suitable for a particular job, and learning the abilities of those individuals who are to start doing physical exercises as well as enhancing their performance. This is the first study in Turkey whose primary aim is to compare mental levels and anthropometric measurements. Studies have been conducted on this subject in other countries, but they are quite limited. There are quite a limited number of studies examining isokinetic test results and dynamic balance test results by somatotype. The present study may form a basis for future studies.
