Abstract (EN)

Aim: Body image is how a person perceives his own body in his mind. It develops and changes over time by being influenced by family, friends, society, and the media. Our aim in our study is to evaluate how body image is evaluated in Inonu University Faculty of Medicine health workers, how often body image disorder is seen, how body image affects the quality of life, and also to evaluate the obesity rate in these healthcare professionals and its relationship with body image. Material and Method: Our study, which is a cross-sectional determinant study, was conducted on individuals who volunteered to participate in the work and worked at Inonu University Medical Faculty Turgut Ozal Medical Center between December 2020 and January 2021. The minimum required sample size was calculated as 138, with the assumption that the standard deviation would be 6 to be able to estimate with 95% confidence level (alpha=0.05) and ±1 deviation margin. A questionnaire including sociodemographic questions, BAS-2 and BIQLI was administered to the participants. Results: A total of 182 participants' questionnaires were evaluated. Of the participants in the study, 100 were female and 82 were male. Among the participants, 120 were doctors, 49 were midwives/nurses, 3 were health officers, and 10 were from other professions. The mean age was 29±6.21. Three of the participants were underweight, 107 were normal, 57 were overweight, and 15 were obese. It was observed that the majority of the participants (96.2%) had positive body values. Body image is not affected by gender, age, occupation, education level, and ideal BMI; They observed that BMI was affected by height satisfaction and weight satisfaction. It was observed that there was a positive linear relationship between body image and quality of life. Conclusion: It has been observed that body weight is an important factor in body image and even people with normal weight want to lose weight. It was determined that there was a strong relationship between body image and quality of life. Key Words: Body image, health worker, obesity, quality of life
