Abstract (EN)
Evaluation of Forensic Cases aged 65 and over who applied to Inonu University Faculty of Medicine Turgut Ozal Medical Center in terms of Forensic Medicine Aim: As a result of developments in medicine and technology, the life expectancy of human began to increase. As the proportion of the elderly in the population increases, forensic events involving the elderly population tend to increase day by day. The aim of this study; the obligation of health professionals to report forensic incidents is to provide information and attitude change in order to minimize the mortality and morbidity problems that will occur. Materials and Methods: Cases aged 65 and over who applied to our hospital between 01.01.2016 and 31.12.2020 for a 5-year period were included. In the study, people who have a judicial application; Age, gender, type of injury, area of injury, time of accident, day, season, consultation request, type of discharge, hospitalization, whether the injury can be repaired with simple medical intervention, whether it causes life-threatening or not, the effects of bone fractures on vital functions were evaluated. The data were analyzed in SPSS 26.00 program. Results: In the cases in our study, it was observed that men were exposed to more trauma than women, injuries were most frequently caused by falling, were more common in the young and old group, were more common in the summer season, and the most frequently injured part of the body was the head and neck region. The most common fracture site was found to be the upper extremity. Conclusion: A significant portion of geriatric injuries occur due to preventable factors. Arrangements and measures to be taken in the living environments of the geriatric age group will minimize the injuries of the geriatric age group. Keywords: Geriatrics, forensics, falls
