Retrospective Analysis of Some Blood Products Used in İnönü University Turgut Özal Medical Center in 2018-2019-2020 Aim: Despite all the developments in medical technology, artificial blood has not yet been found to replace blood. In order to obtain information about the use of blood that can only be obtained from donors, Turgut Özal Medical Center (TÖTM)'s erythrocyte suspension (ES), thrombocyte suspensions (TS), fresh frozen plasma (FFP), cryoprecipitate (Cryo) and whole blood (WB) use, age, gender, nationality, diagnosis, etc. This study was carried out in order to retrospectively reveal the change according to years and units without making any distinction. Material and Method: In the study, blood products used by TÖTM's patients registered in the Hospital Information Management System in 2018, 2019 and 2020; ES, TS, FFP, Cryo and WB were analyzed retrospectively according to the years indicated. Results: In our study, in 2018, TÖTM included 49,729 blood products of which 27,013 were FFP, 14,314 ES, 8,237 Apheresis Thrombocyte Suspension (ATS), 131 Cryo and 34 WB; In 2019, 63,108 blood products, including 33,201 FFP, 17,787 ES, 9,396 ATS, 2,678 Cryo and 46 WB; In 2020, 61,128 blood products were used, including 30,719 FFP, 17,276 ES, 10,594 ATS, 2,516 Cryo and 23 WB. In our study, 173,965 blood products were used. Of these, 52% are FFP, 28% ES, 16% ATS, 2.8% Cryo and 0.05% WB. FFP was used the most and WB was used the least. Conclusion: As a result of our study, it was determined that FFP was used the most. FFP was followed by ES, ATS, Cryo, and WB, respectively. Internal units used more blood products than surgical units, most blood products were used in the hematology department. Compared to 2018, the use of blood products increased in 2019 and 2020, increased in 2020 compared to 2018, decreased compared to 2019, it is thought that the reason for this is the coronavirus pandemic.
