The contribution of İnönü University to the economy of Malatya province

Universities have become the driving force for economic contribution as well as being institutions that produce scientific information. Although universities are seen as institutions providing education and training services, they provide positive and significant contributions economically in the regions they are in. Mainly, universities can be expressed as economic actors. In this thesis study; the direct, indirect and induced income and employment contribution to Malatya economy of Inönü University has been calculated. For this purpose, a pre-test study was carried out by using the questionnaires applied to the staff and students of faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences (FEAS) of Inönü University. Followed by, the questionnaire has been used for 550 staff members and 2.115 students at Inönü University. It has been observed in this study that such students have spent 524,58 TL in average per month and the spending of the students of Inönü University to be 185.909.369,9 TL. In the thesis study, the contribution of Inönü University to the Malatya economy as of 2015-2016 academic year was calculated to be 171.100.045 TL directly; 314.706.307 TL indirectly and 288.812.258 TL induced which is totally 774.618.610 TL. The total employment contribution to the Malatya economy of Inönü University was found to be 13.525 people which consist 3.480 people directly; 5.238 people indirectly and 4.807 people induced.
