The impact of cultural differences on time management in construction projects

Abstract (EN)

It is relatively simple for individuals who shares the same cultural characteristics to work together in construction projects and yet it is very difficult to fit them together when they have different cultural characteristics. Various problems may arise in cases where cultural differences are not managed effectively in construction companies and multicultural businesses. When we look at the studies that examine the impact of construction projects on time management of these cultural differences, it is noticed that Turkey has few studies concerning this problem. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of monochronic-polychronic cultural differences on the instructions employees in Turkey, their cultural differences, and the stages of time management from defining, planning, execution, control and closure. A survey was conducted on 105 participants between February 2020 and March 2020 among 15 Turkish companies experienced in the international construction industry. A total of 76 results was received from the participants. According to the results obtained from this study, which was conducted in construction projects in Turkey with the Turkish-foreign joint venture company, cultural differences, has been found to provide a positive impact on time management. Furthermore, the Turkish-foreign joint venture companies in Turkey that was built by Turkish companies has shown more effective time management.
