Examination of occupational health and safety awareness in the construction sector in the context of Şanlıurfa

In this study, it was aimed to determine the level of implementation of occupational health and safety measures for workers working in construction sites by interviewing companies operating in the construction sector in Şanlıurfa province and to reveal whether this varies according to personal characteristics. When previous studies were examined, it was seen that no study was conducted on this subject for Şanlıurfa Province. Construction projects are one of the sectors that create the most employment. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to occupational health and safety issues for workers and employees. The purpose of this study is to examine the level of implementation of occupational health and safety measures stipulated in the new law in the construction sector and the sector's approaches to the subject. In this context, face-to-face interviews were conducted with workers and the opinions of workers on occupational health and safety were obtained through the surveys answered during the interviews. As a data collection tool in the research, a survey study on the subject of work was applied to employers and workers, and a survey and screening study covering the construction sites of 63 construction companies operating in Şanlıurfa was conducted, and it was aimed to reveal the perspectives of the employees on the implementation of the Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331 in the companies they work for, considering the profiles of the employees in the construction sites such as their education levels, ages, professional experiences, etc. As a result of this study, it was aimed that the research would contribute positively to the development of occupational health and safety training in the construction sector and to the literature by evaluating how much the employees in the construction sites know about the issues related to occupational health and safety, the levels and adequacy of their behaviors and attitudes.
