Use of project management knowledge areas in the construction sector

In the construction industry, achieving the objectives of projects depends on an effective project management system. Such a system provides the opportunity to plan, monitor, and control each phase of the project. There are many project management standards that can be preferred to achieve this. The "Project Management Knowledge Accumulation Guide" prepared by the Project Management Institute stands out as one of the basic standards in this field. The activities to be implemented in the guide are described under the title of project management knowledge areas. This study aims to examine the opinions of employees on the use of project management knowledge areas in the construction sector and the use of these knowledge areas in the projects they work on. The questionnaires prepared for data collection within the scope of the research were applied in Adana, Ankara and Istanbul, which have a significant share in the sector in Turkey. The analysis of the data obtained was carried out with the help of SPSS package program. Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis and ANOVA tests were applied to the data set after reliability and normality analysis with SPSS. According to the research results, a significant difference was found between the participants' views on the general use of project management knowledge areas and their education, branch, work experience, position in the project, project profile, and whether they received training in project management. It was understood that there was a significant difference between the application level of project management knowledge areas and the profile of the company the participants worked for, while no significant difference was found between the project profile and the city where the project was located. Another finding from the research is that there was a significant difference between participants' views on issues in project management practices and their position in the project, the profile of the company they worked for, and the profile of the project they were involved in.
