Özet (EN)
Lung cancer cases were rare at the beginning of the twentieth century; however, it is becoming a more widespread and important health problem nowadays. Lung cancer, which accounts for 28% of deaths due to cancer, became the second most mortal disease after heart diseases. There are three histological types of lung cancers, which are squamous cell carcinoma, small cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. Ion channels located on the plasma membrane are responsible for the cellular electrogenesis and electrical transmission. These channels are involved in the performing of all the basic cell actions which are required for the protection of tissue homeostatis like apoptosis, proliferation and differentiation. There are a few main mechanisms for the ion channels' contribution to these critical processes. These are the protection of membrane potential, regulation of cell volume and the entrance of ions which ensure basic signal transmission. The transformation of malign cells as a result of increased proliferation, corrupted differentiation, the corruption in cell termination are the main reasons for abnormal tissue development. Uncontrolled spread and invasion can occur as a result of this. Transformation can usually occur with changes in ion channel expression. The result is the abnormal progression of cellular responses. Even though various expressions and ion channel activities have been proposed to be the regulators of the formation and progression of cancer, it would be highly valuable to examine the mechanisms which are bound to ion channels, in lung cancer cells. In this research, immunohistochemistry and real time PCR and TRPM2, TRPM4, TRPM5, TRPM7, TRPM8, with RNA expression of Piezo 1 and Piezo 2 have been studied. In our study, we have examined the effects of TRP ion channels in the formation of lung cancer, and found out that TRPM5, TRPM7 and Piezo 2 have shown a significant increase especially in lung cancer tissue. The results we obtained suggest that these ion channels could be the new target genes in the treatment of lung cancer and thus, a new lung cancer treatment method can be the subject of a trial at a later stage, which consist of targeting these proteins in in vivo conditions. Key words: Lung cancer, TRPM channels, RNA expression, immunohisto chemistry
