Abstract (EN)

This study was undertaken aiming at examining the basic philosophical approaches tothe human-nature relationship and determining whether the theoretical approaches areconsistent with our everyday life. The study consists of two main parts. In the first part thedevelopment of the philosophy of environment, the approaches and concepts concerning thistopic are being introduced while the second part consists of the realized empirical research. The discussions on the philosophy of environment can be generally classified as theapproaches that imply the human-centered mechanist ideas and the ecological ideas that implythe environmental-centered approaches. The social environmental approach refuses thehuman-nature differentiation and implies suggestions of an alternative ethical and ecologicalsocial-ecological system that is established on freedom, cooperation, aid and democracy. The discussions have not been carried out only theoretically; their phenomenologicalreflections in practical life have been considered as well. In this context a population ofrespondents chosen out of NGO?s (Non-Governmental Organisations) aiming at solving theenvironmental problems in the center of Antalya or achieving a certain consciousness on thisissue has been interviewed on their consciousness, sensitivity and behavior. The responses of the population of respondents consisting of biologists, constructionengineers and forest engineers have been compared with each other however no differenceshave been determined. The destruction of agricultural lands and forests through intensiveconstruction of buildings and the intensive and unplanned construction in the center of thecity are being considered as the most significant environmental problems. Those in thepopulation of respondents are rarely members of any environmental association and ratherprefer individual solutions concerning environmental problems. This situation is the result ofcivil initiatives being suppressed in the past of the country and therefore such a tradition notbeing able to expand. Such organizations being used by globalization as an instrument areanother difficulty that exists concerning the problems that have to do with this phenomenon.
