Examination of theoretical and practical dimensions of the human rights, citizenship and democracy lesson according to the primary school teachers views 4th grade

The Human Rights, Citizenship and Democracy course has been given as two hours per week in the 4th grades since 2015-2016. The aim of this study is to examine the theoretical and practical dimensions of the İHYD course according to the 4th qrade primary school teachers views. The research was carried out according to the phenomenology design, one of the qualitative research designs, and the participants of the study consisted of 30 teachers working in the city center of Yozgat, who taught the 4th grade teacher İHYD class, according to the criterion sampling method from the purposive sampling method. Data were collected using a semi-structured interview form to seek answers to the research questions. Content analysis was used in the analysis of the data. Based on the codes that emerged after the interviews, categories were created according to the similarities and differences. As a result of the research, although the teachers found the achievements of the 4th grade İHYD course to be realizable and useful, they suggest that they be simplified because the number of achievements is high. It has been determined that the content of the course is not suitable for the age level of the 4th grade students, remains abstract, and there are subjects that are not understood. It has been suggested that the textbook used in the learning-teaching process should be updated and prepared in accordance with the age group. It has also been stated the evaluation that it is necessary to leave the traditional classical methods. Suggestions have been made regarding the theoretical and practical aspects of the course.
