A study on the identification of the relationship between human development index and comprehensive index

Since 1990, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has published a series of annual Human Development Reports (HDR) in which the Human Development Index (HDI) is computed for large number of countries. National studies on Turkey have been conducted between 2001 ? 2004, Human Development Index values have been computed by province. In this study, multivariate statistical analysis including demographic, health, educational and financial variaties have been used with a view to determine the human development levels of provinces in Turkey. SPSS computer programme has been applied in these analysis. The most appropriate set of variaties determining level of development among the mentioned variaties has been obtained through discriminant analysis. The selected variaties have been utilized with the aim of developing a comprehensive indeks by means of factor analysis. The Bland ? Altman method and Passing ? Bablok regression method, based on graphical technical & simple calculations, has been used for the purpose of testing the validity of the developed comprehensive index. MedCalc computer programme has been applied in these methods. Assessments have been made about human development levels of provinces in Turkey, by comparing the comprehensive indeks we have developed with Human Development Index.
