Abstract (EN)

Determination of risk factors and patient profile in human hydatidosis This study was carried out to determine the patient profile and establish possible risk factors for human hydatidosis (Cyctic echinococcosis) in Afyonkarahisar, Turkey. For this purpose, between 2012 and 2014, a period of 3 years, a total 166 patients who diagnosed hydatidosis and underwent surgery were questionnared a sum of 30 questions and their patient records were also obained. Hospital records and questionnares were evaluated and statistical analysis were accomplished. The incidence of hydatidosis was higher in women (53%) than men (47%). The highest rates of location that cycsts were observed were liver (53%) and lungs (40,4%) whereas the lowest rate was in brain (1.2%). Comparisan of the single organ location (94.6%) and multiple location (5.4%) generated statistically significant results (p<0.001). The highest infection was seen at the age of 50-59 (19.9%) and the lowest at the age of 0-9 (2.4%). The highest rate was observed in the primary-secondary education group (49.1%) and the lowest was seen in the postgraduate education group (0.6%). The highest rate was noted in low income group of annual income of 10.000 TL (48.8%) whereas the lowest was seen in annual income of 50.000 TL or higher group (0.6%). The incidence of the disease was higher in people dwelling in rural areas (62%) than those in city centers (38%). The difference was found to be significant (p<0.01). Hydatidosis in persons who own dogs was higher (54.8%) than those no (45.2%), the difference was significant (p<0.01). The recurrence after the treatment was seen in 7.2% of patients. The highest rate was observed in housewives and the lowest rate was seen in children under 9 years-old. Hydatidosis especially in endemic countries was approved to be very important public health concern that has significant socio-economical consequences. In this study patient profile, demographics and risk factors of hydatidosis a salient parasitic zoonosis that threaten not only farm animals but also public health was comprehensively revelaed. The data produced here may set a light on prevention and control studies.
