Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, it is aimed to use topographic models obtained from aerial photographs using image processing techniques for the stability analysis of slopes and embankments. "Structure from Motion" technique was used to create topographic surface models from aerial photographs. In this context, overlapping images were taken from different perspectives and three-dimensional numerical models of the study area created. The models were calibrated with the real coordinates taken from the control points. Thus, three-dimensional models were moved to the actual coordinates and scaled to actual dimensions. Three-dimensional surface models created at high level of detail were compared with time interval and it was observed that the movements in the terrain could be monitored quantitatively. The unique aspect of this project was the establishment of the three-dimensional finite element model by using the high resolution surface model obtained from the photogrammetric methods and transfer the data obtained from the field. For this purpose, a systematic study was carried out in order to transform three-dimensional models in the quality that finite element software can analyze. As a result of this study, it was concluded that it is not possible to transfer surface models taken by photogrammetric method to finite element software without simplification within certain limits. On the other hand, it was determined that the three-dimensional finite element analysis of the models with high polygon number cannot be completed in significant periods and it is a necessity to reduce the polygon number significantly without disturbing the surface geometry. In line with these results, a three-dimensional finite element model of an excavation slope, which had active movement and was monitored instrumentally, was created by evaluating aerial photographs and field observations and inclinometer measurements. Thus, the structural measures necessary to stop the movement were analyzed.
