Determination of hedonic hungery state of adults with insüline resistance via using different scales

Abstract (EN)
This study, was planned to search the relationship between the hedonic hungery state of individuals who have insulin resistance and Turkish Emotional Eating Scale, Power of Food Scale and Food Craving Questionnaire. This study was carried out with 60 (66.7%) women and 30 (33.3%) men aged between 19-64 who have diagnosis of insulin resistance and consulled Nutrition and Diet Polyclinic of M City Hospital in Mersin between June-September 2019. Data based on the study was collected by using a questionnaire from including 31 questions totally and Turkish Emotional Eating Scale, Power of Food Scale an Food Craving Questionnaire in order to determine the eating habits and personel characteristics of individuals. That the total point of Turkish Emotional Eating Scale is 75 and above, the total point of Power of Food Scale 2.5 and above, the total point of Food Craving Questionnaire were nearly 234 shaws the presence of hedonic hungery. The mean total points of Turkish Emotional Eating Scale, Power of Food Scale and Food Craving Questionnaire were 79.3±22.9, 2.9±0.8, 114.0±40.0 among women respectively. The mean total points of Turkish Emotional Eating Scale, Power of Food Scale and Food Craving Questionnaire were 81.0±22.5, 3.2±0.6, 118.1±33.2 among men respectively. It was determined that hedonic impulse towards food is higher among the men who have insulin resistance. This study may indicate that insulin hormone may be effective in modulating food reward responses towards hedonic hungery depend on food cues. Determining the factors leading to hedonic hunger may contribute to the increase of the success in the treatment of obesity. Keywords: Hedonic hunger, insulin resistance, appetite, food cues
